Retro Fabric Prints

Happy first Friday of Spring! The weather is heating up and I'm finding myself spending more and more time outside, dreaming up trips to the beach, hikes, and camp-outs. I was thinking about warm-weather getaways in kitschy vintage campers when I created this new fabric print. Here it is: Vintage Trailer Caravan!

It's available in a multi-color option and black and white on Kona cotton. Both coordinate really well with my other retro-themed fabric prints.

I can't wait to dive into these and sew up some cute stuff!

Remember the Retro Ranch print I used for my Cafe Curtains? I listed this one for sale, too!

New Retro Items in the Shop

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Cheers! Cocktail Cutting Board I've been adding lots of new products and designs to my Vitamodern shop over the past few weeks. I treated myself to a laser cutting class for the new year and have been having a blast making new items for the shops. First up, these bamboo cutting boards are perfect for your swanky bar!

I also made a coordinating card with a teal boomerang and some stars, just for fun.

Laser cutting paper is a lot of fun. I have two new gift tag designs listed in the shop: Boomerangs and Retro Gifts.

Remember the trailer stamp I carved last year? I finally digitized the design and printed it on canvas tote bags, notebooks, and greeting cards. Matchy, matchy!

Vitamini Birthday Sale!
Wow, how time flies! I can't believe that it's been 6 YEARS since I opened up shop on Etsy. Thinking back, though, it feels like so much longer ago. Back then I was in my early 20's and was struggling with transitions. From graduating college to moving to new cities for work. Living on my own and acting like a "grown up" but still having no idea who and what I was supposed to be. I had also been ignoring my creativity for a while (why did I do that?!) and was feeling pretty down about it. It took a chronic illness to make me realize that something was really wrong with how I was living. I put everything on pause: quit my job, gave up my sweet little apartment, and moved back in with my parents to re-group and focus on getting better. I wanted to learn how to screen print for years so I bought a kit on eBay and taught myself. It was January so I started working on some Valentine cards. My mom's friend told me about Etsy, so I figured, "What the hell?" and listed them. I jumped for joy when I got my first sale just 4 days later! If you're considering starting a handmade business of your own, the best advice I can give you is: Just start!

Happy Birthday, Vitamini!

So much has changed since then, but screen printing is still one of my favorite things to do, I still jump a little whenever a new sale comes in, and I still love dreaming up design ideas! Another reason for a happy dance: I just passed the 1K mark for sales in my shop over the weekend. Yahoo!

1,001 Sales!

To celebrate these milestones, I'm having a sale in both of my shops (Vitamini and Vitamodern) through Friday. Use the code Happy6 at checkout to get 15% off your entire purchase! Just in time for your Valentine's Day cards and gifts. I don't have sales very often, so I hope you take advantage! Here's to the next 6 years!

Retro Vases Mid Century Style Fabric

I'm so happy to share my brand new Retro Vases fabric! The design consists of my hand-drawn collection of mid-century glassware. Piecing all of the shapes together to create a continuous repeat was quite a brain teaser! But once I had it figured out, I sent it off to have the good folks at Spoonflower print it up for me in some of my favorite retro-tastic colors.

Available in Sunny Yellow, Tomato Orange/Red, Avocado Green, and Groovy Teal on smooth Kona Cotton! (They look really great together, too!)

In addition to the usual quilt, bag, or accessory project, I'm thinking these prints would make really cute kitchen accessories: hot pads, oven mitts, maybe a french press cozy. Check out the fabric section in the Vitamodern shop on Etsy.

Dashing through the snow...

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

I've been having so much fun creating MINI Cooper fabric designs to sell in my Etsy shop. Spoonflower, based in North Carolina (yay, for US made!) does all of the digital printing for me, giving me flexibility beyond what I'd be able to screen print in my little studio myself. I was excited to create a winter-themed design, so I started with my Let it Snow card design and created a large repeat. Here it is!

This fabric would make nice little sachets, pillows, or even MINI Christmas stockings! Available in fat quarter pieces here. And browse my other MINI Cooper fabrics here.

I hope you're getting into the holiday spirit! And if you've got the shopping bug, my holiday sale is is still going strong in both of my Etsy shops. Take 10% your entire purchase through today! See the Vitamini and Vitamodern shops (or the previous blog post) for coupon codes.

My New Etsy Shop!

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

I just realized that I never officially announced my newest project: a new Etsy shop! I mentioned it here on the blog when it was just an idea, but now it's real! So, consider this its formal introduction:

vitamodern: My handmade shop featuring retro gifts and stationery! I've been slowly making products to add to the shop, including these retro house zippy bags in bright coral and teal. The fabric design features my retro house sketches (straight from my sketchbook!) and cool boomerangs and stars!

And these screen printed cotton tea towels featuring my retro house papercut design project. I creating a whole series of retro house designs based on some of my papercut work.

I've also been working on these repurposed wood key hook boards, screen printed with my retro ranch designs.

And my current fave, atomic boomerang holiday cards!

I've actually already sold out of the white cards! I still have a few of the kraft brown ones left, so if you are interested head over to the vitamodern shop. I'm very tempted to mail them out myself... I've got tons of more projects in the works, so add my shop to your favorites so you can keep an eye out.

I hope you are all doing well crossing things off your holiday shopping list! There is still plenty of time to buy handmade in time for the holidays. Head over to Etsy and support small handmade businesses this holiday season!
